DETAILING the DRAIN/VENT – Water Management……I call it the sacrificial layer, some call it a rainscreen. Regardless of the name, its purpose is the same, and very important to the success of a wall assembly. A dedicated airspace behind the cladding has a dual purpose usually. Job 1 is to provide a path of mitigation, a drain for the wall assembly. Job 2, is to vent, provide a path for drying. At one of our current projects I walk thru the rainscreen details and show how the wall drains, and vents. Of course BIG RED joins in the fun and inks up some details for the discussion………Enjoy.
