Roll the Tape: Getting ZIP System Sheathing Right

On The Build Show, architect Steve Baczek visits a passive house under construction outside Houston to talk wall framing with Kevin McGuire of BT Grace Homes. They look at 2x6 walls framed 24 inches on center and a ZIP R-sheathing system that integrates a water-resistant and air barrier with continuous exterior insulation. The conversation covers taping and rolling seams, liquid flashing for tricky joints, and a rain screen for drainage. Back in the studio, Steve explains how exterior insulation breaks thermal bridging through the studs, why whole-wall R-value matters more than cavity R-value, and how pressure-sensitive adhesives depend on proper installation to perform.
