On this episode of the Build Show, Mike Conneely walks through the framing and prep work behind a deck built like a low-slope roof, designed to support porcelain tile on pedestals. Joists sit twelve inches on center to handle the added weight, with sloped framing directing water toward roof drains through a torch-down membrane system below. A curb frames the perimeter, built to anchor railings and later get wrapped in finish material. Inside, an LVL rim joist and solid blocking reinforce the structure against heavy bolt loads, keeping the assembly stable beneath the tile and railing system above.
