What Makes a Passive House Different? On-Site Training with BT Grace
Gabriel and I recently had the opportunity to spend time on-site with Kevin McGuire and the team at BT Grace, getting hands-on experience with passive house construction techniques here in Houston.
This wasn’t just a job site tour. We rolled up our sleeves and learned firsthand how to properly install Huber’s Zip System products, including air sealing details and Zip Tape application techniques that are critical to creating a high-performance building envelope.
During the visit, we discussed framing methods, insulation strategies, moisture management, and the building science principles that make passive houses some of the most energy-efficient and durable homes being built today. We also explored the challenges of achieving exceptional air tightness in Houston’s hot and humid climate.
Despite a little rain slowing things down, the experience provided valuable insight into what it takes to build a truly high-performance home and why details matter so much during construction.
A huge thank you to Kevin McGuire and the BT Grace team for sharing their knowledge and allowing us to learn directly from the field.
