The host of The Build Show, Matt Risinger, reviews the salt-free water conditioning system he installed in his Austin, Texas home to deal with hard water. Slab-on-grade construction and a dislike of the slippery feel of salt-based softeners ruled out a traditional setup. Instead, a citric acid cartridge keeps calcium and magnesium from forming scale. Years later, aerators stay clean, unlike at his previous house, where tankless water heater descaling was a constant chore. He now upgrades to a multi-stage system with sediment and carbon filtration, pressure gauges, and an optional drain port.
