Wall & Roof Venting

In today’s episode of The Build Show, Travis breaks down why a Perfect Wall and an over-roof assembly are essentially the same building concept—and why he keeps getting questions about it. He walks through the roof mock-up step-by-step, showing how exterior insulation, a vented over-roof, and continuous control layers create a durable, high-performance assembly that keeps heat out, prevents moisture problems, and maintains clean architectural lines. Travis clarifies how the over-roof provides continuous insulation—“wearing the jacket, not eating the jacket”—while still allowing proper ventilation so shingles run cooler, not hotter. With mineral wool insulation, vent strips, and simple furring details, the system boosts thermal performance, improves drying, protects wall assemblies, and meets code without sacrificing interior ceiling height or fascia proportions.
