18 months after the devastating Palisades Fire, rebuilding is finally underway across Pacific Palisades and the surrounding Malibu area. In this episode, we return to the Palisades to see what reconstruction actually looks like on the ground and talk with the builders helping homeowners rebuild. We tour multiple fire-rebuild projects, including a brand-new home and a house that surprisingly survived the fire but suffered extensive smoke and environmental damage. Along the way, we look at fire-resistant construction methods, ember-resistant vents, ZIP System sheathing, structural shear walls, stucco and cementitious materials, fire-rated exterior gypsum, wildfire-resistant roof and soffit strategies, Pella windows and doors, and California’s unique seismic construction requirements. We also visit Builders FirstSource to see the products and resources being supplied specifically for wildfire reconstruction. The scale of the destruction is difficult to comprehend, but so is the amount of construction happening throughout the community. This is a look at what rebuilding the Palisades really looks like 18 months after the fire and how builders are approaching these homes differently.
