Lydia Crowder explains why removing dust from drywall is essential before painting smooth walls and Level 5 finishes. Dust from sanding and other trades can settle along joints, screws, and corner bead, creating visible imperfections and flashing once paint is applied. She demonstrates using a clean, dry microfiber cloth and a barely damp soft sponge to gently remove dust without damaging the drywall compound. Lydia cautions against rough materials and excessive water, which can scratch or soften the surface. She also discusses using air to blow off dust, while still recommending a final wipe-down before primer or paint.
