Brent Hull continues his tour of Auburn in Natchez, Mississippi, examining how the home blends Federal, Georgian, and Greek Revival architecture. He points to moldings, door casings, mantels, stair details, porches, and high ceilings as clues to the home's evolution and the way people adapted architecture to the Southern climate. Hull also explores the house's timber-framed attic, including traditional mortise-and-tenon construction, and considers how pattern books may have influenced the builder. Throughout the tour, he focuses on how architectural details reveal the home's history and demonstrate the distinctive mix of classical styles found in early American architecture.
