Woodcraft is closing... and they kinda deserve it.

Why is the local Woodcraft closing? In this video, I talk about my experience with the Woodcraft store here in Fort Worth and why I think customer service may have played a bigger role than they realize.
I've been doing carpentry and residential trim work for 15 years, and I've bought plenty of specialty tools and woodworking equipment from Woodcraft. I genuinely like a lot of what they carry, and it's great being able to see and handle expensive tools before spending hundreds of dollars on them.
But the customer service was a different story. From trying to match molding profiles to finding the right router bit, I had multiple experiences where it felt like I was bothering the employees just by asking for help. And if an experienced contractor feels that way, imagine how intimidating that could be for someone who's just getting started in woodworking.
When I asked why the store was closing, I was told that the woodworking community is getting older and younger people aren't getting into it. But that's not what I'm seeing. There are plenty of young people interested in woodworking and the building trades.
I'm not happy that the Fort Worth location is closing, and I don't want Woodcraft to fail. But I do think they should take a hard look at customer service and how they're welcoming the next generation of woodworkers.
