Mike Conneely of Greenside Design Build walks through a second-story window installation on a framed house, outlining the flashing and taping sequence his crew has relied on for decades. He covers pan flashing with ice and water shield, corner reinforcement with stretch tape, and a chamfered sill that gives shims a level surface to sit on. The window goes in with sealant along three sides, leaving the bottom open for drainage, then gets checked for plumb and level using a laser tied to the other windows in the room. Cap nails secure the flange, and a shingle-style taping pattern directs water outward over each layer below.
