Wi-Fi vs. PoE Cameras: What Builders Need to Know
Build Show Live 2026 Registration
CJ Nielsen breaks down the differences between Wi-Fi and Power over Ethernet (PoE) security cameras for residential projects. While Wi-Fi and battery-powered cameras are easy to install, CJ explains why PoE can be a better option when a home is still under construction. Running CAT6 cable during the rough-in provides both power and data to each permanent camera location, eliminating the need for batteries, nearby electrical outlets, or solar panels. He also discusses centralized equipment, AI tracking, pan-tilt-zoom cameras, and the importance of planning camera locations before the walls are closed.
