Eric Aune and his podcast co-host Andy Mickelson discuss the planning and installation of an air-to-water heat pump system in Andy's Montana workshop. The conversation explores hydronic heating, radiant slab design, heat loss calculations, insulation strategies, and why proper system sizing is critical for efficiency and long-term performance. Eric and Andy explain how thoughtful mechanical design, low-temperature radiant heating, and a well-insulated building envelope work together to maximize comfort while reducing operating costs. They also cover equipment selection, piping layouts, installation details, and the practical challenges of designing high-performance heating systems for real-world applications, drawing on years of field experience and collaboration.
