Lydia Crowder explains how to repair drywall when the outer paper face gets torn away, a common issue during remodeling, wallpaper removal, or when removing glued trim. She recommends removing any loose or delaminated paper and flaking material before applying joint compound. Crowder uses a thin coat of setting-type joint compound to cover the exposed brown paper, then follows with additional coats to smooth and feather the repair into the surrounding drywall. She notes that properly preparing the surface helps prevent bubbling and leaves the area ready for finishing and paint. Watch more of Lydia's episodes and follow her on Instagram.
