Stephanie Dailey walks through two common framing corrections that come up during four-way inspections: nail plates and stud shoes. Filming on an active job site, she explains why plumbers sometimes cut too deep into two-by-four walls when running drain lines — and what the code thresholds are for bearing versus non-bearing walls. The stud shoe, a Simpson Hardware product, wraps around a compromised stud and is secured with nails specified in Simpson's guidelines. Dailey shows the hardware from both sides of the wall, noting that proper nail selection matters and that inspectors do check. Nail plates serve a separate but related purpose, protecting wire and pipe from drywall screws.
