In Part II of his tour of Natchez, Mississippi, Brent Hull explores an 1833 Greek Revival home, examining the craftsmanship, architecture, and construction methods that define the historic house. He looks at the temple-style entrance, classical columns, detailed millwork, original flooring and wallpaper, and the way the home is designed to encourage airflow through the Deep South climate. Upstairs, Hull examines the massive timbers and early nail-based framing, discussing how lumber availability helped drive the transition from traditional timber framing toward early stick framing. The tour also highlights the home’s expansive back porch, original cabinetry, shutters, and carefully organized classical details.
