We Built a Private Deer Stand INSIDE This Custom Barndominium Home | Texas Best Construction

We built a private deer stand inside this custom barndominium as a unique and strategic feature in this Kerens, Texas project.

This massive 4,800-square-foot hybrid steel build showcases advanced engineering and thoughtful design, blending functionality with a one-of-a-kind ranch lifestyle experience.

The Kerens Ranch Project:

This property is a 1,600-acre family ranch with a history dating back to the early 1900s. Our construction team is proud to build the very first homestead on this land.

  • 2,100 sq ft living quarters
  • 1,500 sq ft shop area
  • 1,200 sq ft of covered wraparound porches

These elements combine to maximize comfort, utility, and outdoor living space while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.

Technical Framing and Structural Engineering:

  • Hybrid steel framing for durability and long-term performance
  • Diagonal bracing for enhanced shear strength
  • Standard purlins with added structural support for roof stability
  • Extended purlins along window frames for improved water drainage and protection

These construction strategies ensure both structural integrity and long-term moisture control.

The Custom Hunting Lookout:

The standout feature of this build is a private hunting lookout integrated into the second-story attic space. This elevated deer stand is constructed using 2x12 floor joists and overlooks a feeder range positioned between the trees.

This innovative addition blends the home with its ranch environment, creating a practical and immersive outdoor experience directly within the structure.

Interior Layout and Attic Design:

  • 10-foot ceilings throughout
  • Open-concept kitchen and living area
  • Central fireplace for comfort and gathering

We are also modifying the attic by relocating load-bearing supports to interior walls, increasing usable headroom and improving accessibility to HVAC systems and mechanical components.

Running ductwork above ceiling joists in this hybrid design ensures efficient airflow while maintaining clean interior lines.

This construction walkthrough highlights how thoughtful engineering, creative design, and practical ranch features come together to create a truly unique barndominium.
