Too Much Dirt? The Challenge Begins Leveling This Barndominium Site | Texas Best Construction

New Project Groundwork & Site Preparation

Groundwork is officially underway for this brand new project, with Texas weather providing a beautiful backdrop for the start of construction. This update focuses on the critical site preparation phase, particularly managing a significant slope to ensure a level and stable pad for the foundation.

Key Site Preparation Steps
  • Cut and fill process to create a perfectly level building pad before the foundation crew arrives.
  • Careful attention to the relationship between the new foundation and the existing driveway to maintain proper height and alignment.
  • Removal of native clay and replacement with select fill for a solid base, optimizing stability for upcoming concrete work.

This phase ensures a strong foundation and sets the stage for a smooth construction process moving forward.

The amount of dirt we have moved today is honestly impressive and I might have actually generated a little more than I originally anticipated. We have a massive amount of dirt to manage now but making this kind of progress feels great. I have been using the laser to check my grades and even though I am still a little bit low on one side the tracking is looking solid. We are expecting another load of dirt soon to give the foundation team some extra flexibility when they start their work. This project is going to be a unique one featuring a large shop area combined with some versatile flex space that will serve a variety of purposes. The site itself offers a stunning view off the lookout toward the west and seeing it all come together in this seventy degree January weather is exactly why we love doing what we do. We have plenty of builds coming up so make sure you stay tuned for the full dimensions and more technical details as this shop begins to take shape.
