Mike Conneely is on-site at a modern build in Austin, Texas, where construction extends well beyond the house itself — out onto the water. He walks through an active dock and bulkhead installation with project manager Jeff, covering sheet piling, driven pilings, and the steel superstructure keeping the shoreline in check. Inside the house, the conversation shifts to the kind of details that separate good work from great work: decorative steel beams with thermal breaks, wildfire-code-compliant soffit assemblies, a mitered porcelain pool coping detail, and a clean baseboard reveal achieved through careful sequencing of flooring, millwork, and drywall. A seven-foot-wide gas fireplace divides two rooms near the back of the house.
