Site Prep for New Construction: Tree Removal Basics

Mike Conneely of Greenside Design Build walks through tree removal at the start of a new home build. Before the site fence goes up, he has a surveyor stake the lot corners and building envelope to see which trees conflict with the house or driveway. A professional arborist assesses larger trees, weighing their health against excavation and root damage. Mike marks trees for removal with a small paint dot, which is easy to cover if a client changes their mind. He calls the utility marking service before any cutting, since trees can sit over old lines. Lot size determines whether crews pull trees down or cut them in sections.
