Paint Sheens Make or Break Your Drywall Finish

Paint sheens can make a huge impact on the final appearance of drywall. Lydia explains that higher-gloss paints like satin and semi-gloss can highlight imperfections, especially on smooth walls, and recommends using flat paint for better coverage and a softer, more forgiving finish. Flat is ideal for walls and ceilings, while satin can be used on trim. Eggshell is a common middle-ground option, but it still reveals flaws more than flat. Lydia advises staying away from glossy finishes unless you're doing high-end specialty work, and encourages sampling before committing to a paint sheen.
