Old School Balloon Framing vs Modern Engineered Lumber

We’re taking old school balloon framing and giving it a massive modern upgrade. In this video, the crew tackles framing, sheathing, and crane-lifting a 44-foot-long, 25-foot-tall rake wall built flat on the deck.

Instead of fighting warped dimensional lumber or floppy plates, we used full-length engineered LVL for the tall studs and double top plates to keep the wall dead flat and rock-solid during the lift.

Huge thanks to PWT for sponsoring this build and providing the engineered wood products that made this lift smooth and stiff.
