Mabank Barndominium Update | Steel Frame and Roof Installed | Texas Best Construction

Welcome back to the channel! Today we’re out in Mabank, Texas, giving you an in-depth update on one of our most exciting barndominium builds to date.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll remember when we first showed you the site prep and dirt work. Since then, the transformation has been incredible — we now have the foundation poured, steel framing set, and a brand-new black roof installed. The darker color contrast gives this project a sharp, modern look that really makes it stand out.

This home is a great example of our hybrid steel frame system, and in this walkthrough, I’m breaking down exactly how it all comes together.

Starting at the front entrance, you’ll see how the wraparound porch flows all the way around the home, providing shade, heat protection, and year-round comfort. Inside, the main living area features vaulted ceilings, tons of natural light, and a split design layout that separates the master suite from the additional bedrooms. Above the porch, clerestory windows will bring even more daylight into the living room and kitchen spaces.

Altogether, this barndominium offers:

  • 2,000 sq ft of living quarters
  • 1,300 sq ft of shop space
  • 1,500+ sq ft of porch space

That’s over 4,800 square feet under roof — a dream setup for barndominium living!

We’ve also integrated smart building details that make this home both efficient and durable. The vertical steel beams tie into the main roof support, while thicker steel tubing is used at key load points.

Our porch design includes concrete ledges poured 1.5” lower than the living areas, which adds extra protection against heat, water, and rodents. Receiver channels, spray foam seals, and J-trim details all ensure this home will be secure, weather-tight, and long-lasting.

In this video, you’ll see how the wood framing ties into the steel structure, how we prepare for the ZIP system sheathing, and how attic space is incorporated above the main living areas for ductwork and storage.

I’ll also walk you through the shop layout — a huge 1,300 sq ft space perfect for projects, storage, or working from home.

One of my favorite features of this design is the massive wraparound porch. At 1,500 square feet, it adds not just shade and protection but also lifestyle value — imagine enjoying summer evenings or Texas sunsets with all that outdoor living space.

This build is also packed with customization options. From additional decking and liner panels to window framing and attic layouts, the hybrid steel system gives homeowners flexibility for both design and function.

That’s why more and more families are choosing this type of construction — it blends the durability of steel with the comfort and finish of traditional framing.

We’re just getting started on this project, and it’s going to be a barndominium you won’t want to miss.
