Older New England Basement, half rubble, half Concrete Masonry Unit. Always a challenge to how we will insulate/retrofit this assembly. The basement is dry, but thermally open/connected to the exterior, options are limited. The upper walls are ballon framed with some air permeable batt insulation in the band joist that is literally doing nothing. For these reasons, I turned to a 2” layer of Closed Cell Spray Foam. It easily conforms to the existing assembly, and if executed properly by a respected insulation contractor, will last for years and years………Enjoy
