Day 1 Building a Barndominium in Texas | Site Prep & Dirt Work in Kerens | Texas Best Construction

Kerens Barndominium 2026 – Dirt Work & Site Preparation

We are officially kicking off the first barndominium project of 2026 in Kerens, Texas. This initial update focuses on the extensive dirt work and site preparation required to get the build off the ground.

Site Challenges & Solutions
  • Addressing a four-foot elevation difference from the back to the front of the property with professional grading and select fill dirt.
  • Recycling soil from a new duck pond to create a level, stable building pad.
  • Careful navigation around existing oak trees to preserve landscape aesthetics.
Equipment & Crew
  • Takeuchi skid steer used to manage red clay and soil movement.
  • Temporary power pole installation and jobsite camera setup to document progress.
  • Coordination with local power company for utility line placement and water meter location.
Construction Insights
  • Emphasis on compaction and precision with up to 48 inches of fill in some areas.
  • Planning for spacious living quarters and an attached shop area, typical of the barndominium lifestyle.
  • Focus on preparation and mindset needed to handle large-scale earthwork and weather challenges.

Follow along with Texas Best Construction as we transform this dirt pad into a beautiful custom barndominium. Subscribe and follow on Facebook and Instagram for updates.
