Today we're at a Georgian-style home in Tabers, building one of the most recognizable elements of classical architecture: an entablature. What looks incredibly complex is actually built from a series of simple components that come together to create a dramatic finished detail.

In this video, we walk through building and installing the entablature, from the plywood framework and blocking to the solid poplar moldings. We cover the frieze, soffit, fascia, bed molding, crown, and tenia, along with the proportions and reveals that make the finished assembly work.

We also look at the fastening methods, the purpose of the architectural drip edge, why building a small mockup can prevent costly changes, and how primer brings out the profiles and shadow lines of the finished millwork.
