Jake Bruton and mechanical engineer Ross Trethewey tour the HVAC and ventilation systems in a high-performance home, explaining how mechanical design and installation affect comfort, efficiency, and indoor air quality. They examine a variable refrigerant flow (VRF) heat pump system, ductwork routed inside the building envelope, and dedicated temperature zones. The walkthrough also covers backup electric heat, condensate drainage, energy recovery ventilation (ERV), and a whole-house dehumidifier. Throughout the tour, Jake and Ross discuss equipment sizing, humidity control, noise reduction, and the coordination between engineers and installers needed to integrate complex mechanical systems into a durable, energy-efficient home.
