Tankless Tech Meets Forced Air: A New HVAC Approach

At the AHR Expo, Eric Aune speaks with Navien about its NPF hydronic furnace, a forced-air system that integrates tankless water heater combustion technology into an all-in-one air handler. The unit operates as a closed-loop hydro-air system with a variable-speed blower and wide modulation range, allowing lower input rates than many conventional gas furnaces. Paired with a heat pump and cased coil, the system functions as a hybrid dual-fuel setup that can run both heat sources simultaneously rather than switching fully from one to the other. Outdoor sensors and performance monitoring help balance efficiency, capacity, and operating costs within a ducted HVAC system.
