Stephanie Dailey walks through the underground plumbing overhaul on a major home conversion project — taking a five-bedroom, four-bathroom house to eleven bedrooms and ten bathrooms. The existing septic system, originally sized for a much smaller home, couldn't support the expanded layout, so the entire sewer main is being replaced rather than patched into. Old bathroom drains are cut at the slab and abandoned in place, while new bathroom locations are carefully planned around accessibility, with curbless showers in key areas. A new 3,000-gallon septic tank and expanded leach field are repositioned on the property, navigating tree preservation, drainage ditches, and setback requirements.
