This Stopped Me Dead in My Tracks at IBS

At the 2026 IBS show in Orlando, Jordan Smith stops by the Think Wood booth — a joint effort from four wood councils — where craftsmen Gary Strickler and Barrett spend the day building live on the show floor. The booth, constructed largely on site from white pine and cedar, stands apart from the manufactured product displays surrounding it. Smith uses the moment to speak candidly about his preference for real wood over plastic alternatives, arguing that composite decking ends up in landfills while wood returns naturally to the earth. The conversation touches on craftsmanship, material honesty, and why the real thing still matters in residential building.
