My Favorite Drywall Mud for Taping (And What to Avoid)

Lydia Crowder breaks down the relationship between drywall compounds and tapes, clarifying which products are compatible and which combinations lead to failure. She covers all-purpose, plus three, UAP, and easy sand 45, noting that all-purpose is her preferred taping mud for its strong bond and workability. Mesh tape is the most restrictive — it only works with easy sand 45 — while paper tape and five-ause offer more flexibility across compound types. Angles, flats, and butt joints each have their preferred tape, and flex corner tape handles cathedral ceilings and off-angles across any of the muds.
