Kemp Barndominium Progress Update | Texas Best Construction

Join us on a deep dive into the construction phase of this massive new Barndominium, an over 2,000-square-foot home boasting 600 square feet of shop space and 400 square feet of porches, featuring a design reminiscent of our popular Wheels Point and Lonestar Landing projects.

We get a rare top-down view, exploring the core of TBC’s hybrid steel framing system, which combines durable steel with traditional wood framing for superior strength and sealing.

We walk through the framing process in detail, highlighting critical connection points like the use of two- and three-quarter-inch coated tech screws at every junction of the sleeper studs, a system that gives us immense confidence in the wall integrity.

The innovative design includes a vaulted living room with abundant natural light, decorative gable ends on the front and back porches, and a stepped roofline over the attached car cover area.

Inside, the layout features a massive owner suite with dual vanities, a separate private toilet area, and a large closet space, alongside alternate bedrooms, all utilizing ten-foot ceilings for an expansive feel.

We go up into the substantial two-story attic space to show the interstitial area created above the ridge line for ductwork and clear air passage, and demonstrate how setting the purlins flush inside the beam allows for a superior foam insulation seal around the steel, a vital part of our robust energy efficiency strategy.

See the 2x6 framing walls, the Zip System sheathing, and the methods used to integrate the steel I-beams and receiver channels into the structure, giving you a comprehensive look at the quality and thought that goes into every TBC Barndominium build.

Let us know in the comments if you think we should keep the temporary skylight openings in the living room, and stick around as we move on to installing the windows, liquid flashing, and air sealing this fantastic Barndominium.
