How to Layout Stepped Footings

I’ve been working with the Stabila LA180L Layout Station for the past three years, and in that time it has become one of the most valuable tools in my kit. When you’re framing, forming concrete, or building decks on sloped lots, accuracy in layout is everything, and this tool makes that process faster, easier, and far more precise than traditional methods. Instead of spending extra time pulling tapes, setting strings, and double-checking measurements, the layout station projects reliable lines that allow the crew to move forward with confidence. For me, it has eliminated a lot of the guesswork and reduced the number of corrections needed down the road. It’s especially useful on complicated jobsites where stepped foundations or uneven grades can make layout tricky. Over time, the consistency and efficiency it provides have more than justified the investment. I would put it in the category of a “must-have” tool—once you start using it, you really don’t want to go back to working without it.
