How Carpenters Install Paneled Jambs - Finish Carpentry

Welcome back to the Georgian House project. In today’s video we’re building one of the largest and most detailed panel jambs in the entire home.

This custom millwork feature is designed around the ceiling beam layout and broken into multiple sections to create a clean, balanced look that fits the style of the house perfectly.

We walk through the full process including:

  • Why we use 3/4-inch backing for panel stability
  • Laying out rails and stiles for perfect reveals
  • Using pocket hole joinery for long-span assemblies
  • Pre-assembling large trim sections for better quality and efficiency
  • Aligning millwork with exposed ceiling beams
  • Installing casing to clean up the final look

There’s something incredibly rewarding about watching a home transform from rough framing into finished custom carpentry, and this panel jamb is a perfect example of how millwork can completely elevate a space.

If you enjoy finish carpentry, custom trim work, and detailed craftsmanship, this one is for you.
