Why I Patch Drywall Like This

Lydia Crowder walks through her preferred method for patching drywall holes on new construction and residential remodels. Rather than reaching for pre-made patch products, she works with Easy Sand (a hot mud with high plaster of Paris content), fiberglass mesh, and standard drywall knives — materials she typically has on hand. The process involves packing the hole in stages, building up compound along the edges, and allowing each fill coat to set before adding the next. She also demonstrates using fiberglass mesh as a backer, noting that hot mud pressed through the fibers creates a notably strong, durable bond — particularly useful in high-traffic areas.
